Iain graduated from Dundee University with Honours in 1990. After completing his Diploma in Legal Practice in 1991 he trained in Inverness for two years before returning home to practice in Dundee. He has been appearing in Courts representing clients since 1992.
On his return to Dundee in 1993 Iain was a general Court Assistant for 12 months before joining Theo’s then predominantly criminal practice. Over the years Iain has developed the firm’s civil court practice. As the civil practice grew Iain spent less and less time in the criminal courts and has for the past 15 years concentrated solely on the civil work.
Iain’s extensive knowledge of civil court practice and procedure led to him being invited to tutor on Dundee University’s Diploma in Legal Practice course in 2004. Iain has been the lecturer, head tutor and course leader since 2011.
Iain handles a broad range of civil disputes including commercial actions, payment/ debt, breach of contract, housing, interdict, family and divorce and appeals before the Sheriff Appeal Court. He always does his best to avoid court action if at all possible but if proceedings are necessary will pursue or defend your case fearlessly but always having regard to the commercial realities of the matter.
